From handcuffs and straitjackets to sealed water tanks –  Harry Houdini, one of America’s first superstars, could escape from virtually anything.  So confident in his abilities, he intended to defy his last inescapable prospect – death.

While enjoying a very celebrated career as an escape artist and illusionist, Houdini longed to make contact with his deceased mother.   He tried to reach out to his mother through mediums, psychics, and séances and when all failed he spent the last 13 years of his life debunking fraudulent mediums as fakes.

And while he always challenged the premise of a SPIRITUAL EXISTENCE AFTER DEATH, he made a commitment to his wife Bess that if he were to die before her; he would reach out to her and give her a signal.

At the age of 52 from a Ruptured Appendix – Harry Houdini died in Detroit Michigan on Halloween night – For a decade Bess Houdini held Séances on Halloween night with no success.  After the last attempt by Bess is reported to have told people, “Ten years is long enough to wait for any man.”

Eureka Springs, Arkansas which is known for being the location of an Extraordinary Escape, is home to Intrigue Theater, An Illusionist and a Medium.   Sean-Paul and Juliane, producers of Intrigue Theater, currently in its second season, take guests back in time with a production reminiscent of a turn of the century illusionist and a spiritual medium.  The Show has been recognized as a “Must See Attraction” in Eureka Springs and a “magical experience like no other!”

Bess Had Seances for 10 years following Houdini’s death.

Houdini Seance

This Halloween night AT 10 pm – INTRIGUE THEATER will present a special performance called The INTRIGUE of HARRY HOUDINI – It will take place in the crystal Ballroom of the Crescent, America’s Most Haunted Hotel –The show will include the best segments of Intrigue theater and will end with a Séance to try to make contact with the Spirit of Harry Houdini.

“While there have been perhaps 100’s of Houdini séances in the past 86 years – we don’t know of one ever conducted in a place already as haunted as the Crescent Hotel.”, says Medium Juliana Fay of Intrigue Theater.

Given the Victorian location of Eureka Springs and the incredibly unique experience of Intrigue Theater the Editor of the Citizen Newspaper has issued a Formal Challenge to Sean-Paul the Illusionist to channel the Spirit of Harry Houdini!

Seating is limited – Subscribe to Intrigue Journal for free and get a complimentary Pendulum with the Purchase of your Seance Ticket.

The Citizen newspaper’s Challenge  Illusionist, Sean-Paul
50 foot suspended Strait Jacket Escape
Thursday, October 4th  Noon       The Crescent Hotel

Sean-Paul to be suspended from the Observation deck of the Crescent Hotel

In the Spirit of America’s greatest and most famous illusionist – HARRY HOUDINI and given that Eureka Springs is known for being the location of an EXTRAORDINARY ESCAPE, The Citizen Newspaper Challenges Illusionist Sean-Paul of Intrigue Theater to the Following…

We have obtained a regulation straight Jacket from a nearby Corrections facility.
Following an inspection of the straight Jacket by Eureka Springs  Police Department to verify its authenticity, we Challenge Sean-Paul to be strapped up in the Straight Jacket and hoisted upside down by his feet, suspended from plank extending off of the observation deck of the Americas Most Haunted Hotel – The Crescent Hotel.

Restrained in the Strait Jacket, isolated and upside-down 50 feet in the air – Sean-Paul must free himself before he is lowered back down to the front steps of the hotel.  One thing that makes this extra unique is that Sean-Paul will be dangling high above a haunted location where several deaths resulted from high falls, including the Crescent’s most famous ghost Michael- who died from a high point of the hotel while it was being built.
Provided Sean-Paul is Successful in the Straight Jacket Challenge – The Carroll County Newspaper stands by with another Challenge – Houdini’s Sealed and Locked Milk Can Escape!

The Carroll County newspaper’s Challenge to I Illusionist, Sean-Paul
Locked Sealed Milk Can Escape
Saturday October 20th  7 pm  The Basin Spring Park

Following the successful escape of a strait Jacket suspended upside down from the top floor of the Haunted Crescent Hotel,  The Carrol County  Newspaper Challenges Illusionist Sean-Paul of Intrigue Theater to the Following…

We have located and obtained a 70 year old 30 gallon Milk Can.

In the Spirit of Houdini’s Milk Can escape “Failure means a drowning death!” we submit the following challenge.

Following an exhaustive inspection of the can and lid by members of the crowd, we hereby challenge Sean-Paul to be handcuffed, stuffed into the milk can filled with water and the lid sealed with 4 padlocks.  We are anxious to see if Sean-Paul can escape from such conditions or if he will have to rap on the sides of the milk can with the handcuffs to signal a rescue from EMTs standing by.
